Bob Marley took his first musical steps with Neville O' Riley in the 60's; however he didn't succeed at first. Afterward he started his own band called the Wailers with Bunny Livingston and Peter Tosh. Along the way more members joined their small band. They gained fame fairly quickly mainly because of the support of Chris Blackwell and Marley's dedication to his music. Blackwell respected Rasta as a religion and understood that Marley's Rasta beliefs and political convictions were a huge part of his greatness as an artist. The other members of The Wailers started to realize how Marley was seen as more popular than the rest of them. He soon broke from the group and began his own career along with a few of the other members, but no one's solo career reached anywhere near as much fame as Marley's. Bob Marley had an incredibley strong career and touched many people with his music. He might even be proved to be the most significant musical artist of the 20th century.
"These songs of freedom, cause it's all I've ever had. Emancipate yourself from mental slavery," lyrics from Bob Marley's song 'Redemption Song' as his farewell as he was dying of cancer.
